Bernardo
Bellotto was an 18th century Italian
landscape painter. He was the nephew and student of
Canaletto, and with his famous uncle, the two travelled
and painted all over Italy. He travelled to Rome, Turin,
Milan, Florence and Verona leaving paintings in each of
these cities. |

Bellotto
moved to Dresden in 1747 and lived there for ten years,
painting wonderful views of the city as well as
commissions for notable people. He eventually sold his
entire collection to Catherine II the Great of St.
Petersburg, and gained enormous success throughout all
of central Europe. He also worked for Empress Maria
Theresa and visited Munich, as well as Warsaw, where he
died in 1780. |
