Francisco Bores (1898-1972)
Born in Madrid, Spain, Francisco Bores would become a Parisian-based painter and was coined by some as one of the most influential and important Spanish artists of the 20th century.
Self portrait
By 1916, Bores was able to devote himself completely to painting. He was a pupil of the Spanish master Juan Gris and by 1925, had moved to Paris. Here he attended the Ecole de Paris and became influence by many styles of painting. Gris had introduced him to Cubism, but he would soon discover Cezanne and post Impressionism as well as Fauvism in the works of Matisse and Derain.

Although Bores would later be defined as a Cubist, these Fauve and post Impressionist influences can be seen in his works as well.

Bores would later add elements of Surrealism and then Abstraction into his compositions, which would usually feature a wide variety of subjects from still life to street scenes. Bores would work in oil and gouaches, primarily.

He was also known for his paintings of interiors, which would include elements from all of his adopted styles.
Bodegon, 1950
Bores continued his painting career well into the late 1960’s, and because he is relatively an unknown name outside of the art world, the possibility for owning one of his pieces is great.
