Art historians have
credited Boucher at reinventing pastoral scenes, and
that he created the imagery of shepherds and
shepherdesses as sentimental lovers. His approach was
said to have dominated French painting until the
emergence of Neoclassicism. Though his ideas were fresh
and inventive, Boucher still met with some criticism in
his lifetime. However, Boucher still managed to create
work for both the collectors and for the art market
while retaining the prestige that he gained as a history
painter. |
