Carreño spent the next several years painting portraits of royalty. Most commonly painted subject included Carlos II, the Duchess of Feria, the Duke of Leoma and the Queen Marian of Austria.
While Carreño did not wish to be knighted by the court, he was held in high esteem for his exemplary work. Carreño had several assistants, including Ledesma and Sotomayor, Mateo Cerezo, Cabezalero and Donoso.
