Cropsey's background in architecture influenced the form and precision of his paintings. What Cropsey loved about fine art, however, was the expression of bold color. Cropsey's paintings are in major American museums, including the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and in the White House. Cropsey's home and studio in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York is now a museum, housing his work.
