Olivier Debre (1920-1999)
Born in Paris in 1920, Olivier would become a talented and leading Abstract painter. Color, light and fluidity became a constant theme in his later years, and would help to distinguish Debre among the many Abstract artists of his time.

Debre began drawing and painting in his childhood, and also learned about lithography and architecture as well. Some of his earliest work is in the style of Impressionism and then Expressionism, although he is not as well known for this work. It is said that he didn’t truly begin to paint until 1943, and cited the works of Pablo Picasso as inspiration.

When he created landscapes, Debre used the idea of “thinking spatially” to create them, and translated his emotions into these landscapes as well. He was also known to use color and light in a way that his canvases would still look wet and fluid years after the paint dried.

Because he worked and lived nearly until the new millennia, it is highly likely that his work is widely owned by the public. Lithographs and oil paintings of his in general could be found virtually world wide.

While Debre was an Expressionist, most of his work is considered Abstract, and thus, may not be entirely easy to identify. However, through considerable research, an authenticator can certainly help you to determine one Abstract artist from another.
