Louis Gauffier was an 18th century French painter, who was initially trained in Paris . He won the Prix de Rome in 1784, and was renowned for creating landscapes and history paintings. Gauffier created some highly-regarded portraits as well, including pencil drawings of poets, musicians and religious figures.
