Philippe Auguste Hennequin was an 18th century French painter. Hennequin proved to be a talented painter as a young man, and after winning the Prix de Rome, Hennequin studied in Italy . However, political strife in the country shortly brought him back to Paris . Once back in France , Hennequin was caught up in the French Revolution and was imprisoned.
The Martyrs of Prairial
Once released from prison, Hennequin devoted his entire life to art. He received many commissions from Napoleon to document his battle scenes, and eventually became the director of the Academy at Tournai.
