Johann Baptist Lampi the Elder was an 18th century Austrian painter. He studied in Salzburg and traveled often. Lampi worked in many European courts and was a member of the Veronese Academy of Arts. Lampi mainly painted portraits of his affluent patrons.
Catherine the Great
From 1786, Lampi was a professor at the Vienna Academy , and he later lived in Poland and Russia . He had two sons who also became painters; Johann Baptist Lampi the Younger and F.K. Lampi.
