Maurice Le Scouëzec
was an Expressionist painter born in Le Mans, France. He
belonged to the Ecole de Paris, and in the 1920’s was
one of the leading artists in Montparnasse. By 1925, Le
Scouëzec had left Paris for a trek across Africa and
other destinations. Though he was a painter, Le Scouëzec
was also an ardent adventurer.
Le Scouëzec created a number of watercolors and
charcoals based on his findings from this long voyage.
His style is distinct, and often is composed of figures
with vague features and empty eyes, all painted in
earthy tones.
