Makovsky was a Russian artist of the "Peredvizhniki (Wanderers)" movement, known for his “Salon style” history paintings. Makovsky was born in Moscow to a family of artists. His father, Yegor founded an institution that later became the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Makovsky, as well as his siblings, followed in their father’s footsteps. By 1851 Makovsky enrolled at the Moscow School, where he excelled under the instruction of МM.I. Skotty, A.N. Mokritsky, S.K. Zaryanko. |
