| Pelouse was initially a traveling salesman, but at the age of 27 he left his profession to become a painter. He first exhibited his work in 1865 at the Salon de Paris, but was not immediately popular in the art community. After winning awards for his paintings in 1873 and 1876, Pelouse finally found a moderate amount of success. He was finally an established artist when he was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1878. During this time, he was also traveling extensively throughout France and exhibited his work all over Europe from Belgium and the Netherlands to Italy. |
