Eduard Peter Ströhling was a popular portraitist and history painter born in Düsseldorf, Germany. He received commissions for portraits from Princess Karoline von Liechtenstin, King George IV and other members of European nobility. He started his artistic career in Russia, and therefore, many of his early paintings are of the Russian nobility.
