Miguel de Tovar was Spanish painter of the Baroque era, born in Higuera de la Sierra. In 1690 Miguel de Tovar moved to Seville to further initiate his painting studies. He was a great admirer of the artist, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, whose work he frequently copied. Murillo had a great deal of influence over his style and technique as a painter. Many of Tovar’s work, such as “La Immaculada” are attributed to Morillo. “La Immacullada” is now housed in the Cathedral of Cádiz. |
