At the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, which hold the archives of all the great French impressionists, we are authorized researchers with a daily allowance of two research hours for an unlimited period, with no end date.
We are very lucky to have been given so much time. Many researchers wait for months to be given a small research window of just a few weeks.
At this museum, and for example also at the Kandinsky Library, we get to perform research directly in the original papers and documents. As opposed to checking microfilms and books. This is the most direct form of research there is. You work sifting through the original papers, letters, photos, in the archive bins.
The research rules vary from museum to museum. It is not the same at the Frick or Morgan in New York, as it is at the Royal Library in Naples, Italy, the Miro Museum in Mallorca, the van Gogh in Holland, or the Getty in Malibu.
What matters is that we are authorized researchers in a huge number of museums and art libraries, from Melbourne, Australia, to Caracas, Venezuela, to the Georgetown University Library, in Washington DC, to Havana, Cuba, to most major art libraries in Europe.
It should also be noted that we perform research in 15 major languages and this insures that nothing escapes us which could be used to authenticate your painting.
