Mahler was a Bohemian-Austrian composer from the Romantic Period. He was born in 1860 and died in 1911. There is only one authentic portrait of Gustav Mahler known to art historians.

Emil Orlick completed this portrait in 1902. Orlick (1870-1932) was a painter, etcher, and lithographer from Prague. He typically worked with engraving or dry point, in combination with roulette and aquatint.
