Attribution of a Painting

Edgar Degas, "Dancers in Blue," 1895, oil on canvas, Musee d'Orsay, Paris.

Clients who have inherited or purchased a painting without a clear idea of who painted it often contact us. The work of art may not have a signature, or a legible signature. Our attribution services provide the information you need. You will get the facts about who created the painting and an explanation of why we think so.

Art Experts has access to a wealth of good, solid information about the world's artists. We often work on obscure artists. Though an artist's identify cannot always be determined we will make a concerted, unbiased effort to do so. We can almost always determine when and where a work of art was created.

The attribution process can be complex, time-consuming and costly. We recommend attribution only when a painting has the requisite artistic merit. Contact us today for a consultation.
