Teofilo Patini was an Italian painter, born in Castel di Sangro. Patinin initially studied at the University of Naples in 1856, as well as the Academy of Fine Arts. Patini’s style was influenced by his classical training, and eventually by Dutch, Roman, and Neopolitan styles as well as French Realism. Patini’s earliest body of work consists of idealized historical scenes and mythological fantasy compositions.

Per Contattarci

He studied under Italian masters such as Giovanni Salomone and Giuseppe Manicelli, and quickly became associated with a group of fellow painters headed by Filippo Palizzi. Patini took part in his first exposition at the Seconda Promotrice di Belle Arti in Naples in 1863, where he exhibited his piece “Revolver of Masaniello,” which is considered to be one of his lost pieces.

Patini was involved in Socialism, and many of his pieces distinctly show his political leanings. He often featured peasants and pictures portraying poverty and is deep compassion towards those living in poor conditions. Patini created a trilogy of sorts as a part of his social awareness, which were titled “Vanga e Latte,” “Heir” and “Beasts of Burden.”
