Edvard Grieg was was a Norwegian composer and pianist who composed in the romantic period. He is best known for his Piano Concerto in A minor, for his incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt (which includes In the Hall of the Mountain King), and for his Lyric Pieces for the piano.
Although there are a few existing portraits of Edvard Grieg, only one appears to be authentic. Eilif Peterssen painted the only authentic portrait of Grieg in 1891. Peterssen, a Norwegian artist, was greatly influenced by Erik Werenskiold.
