Pierre-Etienne Falconet was an 18 th century French painter and engraver. Falconet was the only son of Etienne-Maurice Falconet, a French sculptor. He mainly painted and created engraved portraits, including one of Russia ‘s Catherine II. Through his father, Falconet was commissioned to create a number of paintings for the Russian court after he arrived there in 1773. Today, many of his paintings are housed in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg , Russia.
