Composition

Serge Ferat was a French Cubist painter, born Serguei Nicolaiveich Jastrebzov in Russia. Ferat came from a wealthy family in Moscow and came to Paris at the age of 20. It is said that while in Paris, Ferat became friends with Picasso who turned him onto Cubism. Subsequently, as his skill began to grow, it is said that fellow painter Apollinaire coined the name “Serge Ferat” for him, and the young Russian painter began to sign that as his name shortly thereafter.
