Louis Jean Francois Lagrenee was an 18th century French Rococo painter. Lagrenee mainly painted mythological scenes, and has been credited by art historians as being one of the artists responsible for the transition between Rococo and Classical French art.

Lagrenee won the Prix de Rome from the Academie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1749. He studied in Rome and later was named the director of the Saint Petersburg Academy in Russia .
