Ludvig Oskar was an Estonian painter, born in the small village of Kuusalu. Oskar did not begin his artistic training until 1903, when he enrolled in the studio school of Ants Laikmaa, one of Estonia’s most influential artists. After completing is studies, Oskar began teaching at a secondary school in Tallinn.

Oskar is best known for his traditional landscapes of Koitjärve, painted with muted palettes. Oskar often painted on-site, giving his work a realistic sense of light. His brushwork was relatively loose and impressionistic.
