Hubert Robert was an 18th century Parisian painter known for his landscapes of ruins, particularly those in Rome. He studied sculpture and took up painting after his academic training. Robert was one of the founding members of the Louvre Museum, and left behind a massive oeuvre of paintings, nine of which are housed at the Louvre today.
