Luis Tristán Escamilla was a Spanish, Mannerist painter during Spain’s “Golden Era” of painting. Luis Tristan was born in Toledo, Spain to a family of artisans and traders. Luis Tristan worked as an assistant for El Greco between 1603 and 1607. Luis Tristan’s paintings were greatly influenced El Greco, and many of his later paintings seem to imitate El Greco’s work. Because of their similar style, the paintings of Luis Tristan and El Greco are often confused.
