There are only two known existing authentic portraits of Galileo Galilei. Galileo was known for his work in physics, astronomy, and mathematics. He was born in 1564 and died in 1642.

Justus Sustermans painted portrait #1 in 1636. Sustermans (1597-1636) was a Flemish artist. He was highly respected during his lifetime.

Portrait #2 was painted by Italian printer and portrait painter Ottavio Leoni in 1624.

There is also one post mortem portrait to mention. This portrait, entitled Galileo Facing the Roman Inquisition, was painted by Cristiano Banti in 1857.
